TAILWIND RACEWAY – FOR SALE

For more than a decade many people have spent considerable time, money and energy striving to build TAILWIND RACEWAY.  Fund raising was done and the land purchase was completed in November 2009.

We had the perfect plan.  Someone was willing to loan the club money for construction, and sign revenue was going to provide the cash flow to look after the loan.  We were going to build this summer 2010.  After our sign proposal went to three town council hearings The Fort Macleod town council has rejected our proposal.

The town has suggested that we apply for government grants, yet last year, Rick Casson  MP, talked with us and suggested we apply for a Federal grant from the ‘Building Canada Fund’.  He said that the grant was meant for ‘shovel ready’ projects like ours.  So the executive got busy and gathered written quotes for ashphalt, concrete etc adding up to One Million dollars.  We needed the town's co-operation in acquiring the application form.  The town promised to help us but after several requests, for access to the grant application, the deadline of March 15th came and went.

At our last club meeting the members discussed our options.  The members voted to put the land up for sale and move on to another location.

We have someone doing a market value evaluation for us.  We’ve had a FOR SALE sign made and it will go up on top of the Tailwind Raceway sign at the track just as soon as we establish a selling price.

At least the club owns the land and we should be able to recover the money that has been spent on the site over the years.   This could very well be a blessing in disguise.
